Our Little Bruiser

Adelynn decided to fight a shelf at daycare today, and the shelf most definitely won! We consider it a good week if we don't get any incident reports. They write up anything that results in a mark, even if it fades quickly. And as Adelynn doesn't seem to have the best balance (there go our dreams of a ballet dancer/basketball player!), we get them quite often.

This is the first time I've gotten a call at work though. The director called me this morning to tell me Adelynn had fallen and hit her head pretty hard on a shelf. She said there was a pretty good sized purple goose egg next to her eye, but I wasn't really prepared for the black eye she was sporting when I picked her up...
It actually looks worse in person. I'm not sure we're going to be able to take her anywhere this weekend without getting DCFS called on us. She's just fine though...running around and playing like nothing happened! She's one tough little girl!

Christmas Happenings

We took Adelynn to the Romeoville Winter Wonderland festival last Friday night. All in all, it was pretty lame as she was too little to do any of the activities and we waited in line for about 45 minutes to get her picture taken with a pretty creepy Santa. But, it was only $4 as opposed to the $20 scams at the mall. Oh well.

Adelynn wanted no part of sitting on creepy Santa's lap, so we compromised. Lucky me.

In front of the elf house...just her size!

Seconds before she turned around and tried to attack the penguins...

We took Adelynn with us to get our tree this year. It was pretty cold, so we got her all bundled up in her snowsuit, hat, gloves...the whole works! She was completely unable to move and reminded me of Randy in A Christmas Story..."I can't put my arms down!" She was not too pleased with the whole adventure. She fell asleep in her stroller at the tree farm and pretty much missed the whole thing. She did like the chocolate chip cookies I bought her afterwards though!
"Are you kidding me?"

Napping and letting mommy and daddy do all the work!

And just because it's funny and to give her a reason to hate me when she's a teenager...here is what Adelynn looks like after a nap...

Pumpkin Patch and Halloween

I'm so sorry I'm so late with this update...I can blame it on our Critical Friends visit at work and parent/teacher conferences on Monday! Adelynn is doing great. She's almost completely off the bottles and she's all over the place now. She learned how to climb up the stairs on her own and she is FAST so we are basically just chasing her all over the house now.

We were very excited (or at least I was very excited!) to take Adelynn to Fiorello's Pumpkin Patch for the first time. Unfortunately, it was a pretty cold day so we had to make it a short visit. Hopefully next year she can play on some of the attractions.

I was also very excited to dress her up for Halloween this year. We were able to bring her costume in to daycare that Friday. Here she is doing her favorite thing...going on a buggy ride!

Happy Birthday!

As hard as it is to believe, Adelynn is 1! I'm not really sure where the last year went, but it has been wonderful and amazing. We are so blessed to have this beautiful little girl in our lives. I wanted to stay home and spend the day with her, but I've missed so much work due to illness and all her specialist appointments and tests that I really couldn't take the day off. So, we gave her her present this morning and went out for dinner tonight. She got lots of extra love and attention at daycare, too!

Our gift for her...the Pottery Barn Anywhere chair with her name on it.

Way too early in the morning for either of us

Checking it out...

I think she likes it!

I'm not quite sure what this face was about, but it sure is funny

Making her TV debut. The Chicago news station airs pictures of local babies on their 1st birthdays...here is Adelynn's picture on TV!!

Getting ready to go to dinner at Noodles for one of her favorite meals - mac and cheese!

Eating her birthday ice cream - notice the crazed look she gets in her eyes when ice cream is near!

What a difference a year makes!

Adelynn's Birthday Party

Ok, I know I'm way late posting these pictures, but it has been a crazy and somewhat unhappy week. So hopefully these pictures will bring a smile to your face! Anyways, I started planning Adelynn's birthday party when she was about 6 months old...partly because I am an obsessive planner and partly because I wanted to get things done over the summer so I didn't have a mad rush to finishe things up once school started. The party went really well, except for the crappy weather that didn't cooperate at all! Other than that, we were really happy that most of our families traveled from out of town (Rockford and Minnesota!!) to celebrate with us. We have fabulous families and we are so lucky for that! Here are some highlights from the day...

Her balloon bouquet from Nana and Papa Kriegler

The signs I made for the wall and her high chair...

The pumpkins I painted and glittered

The tables were supposed to be outside in our backyard, but thatnks to Mother Nature...plan B...

The cake that I made
In her pretty dress from Nana and Papa Carpenter

Cake time!
Her cousin Ava, who came all the way from Minnesota!
The cupcake decorating table with Camden, Gavin and Nolan
Opening presents
Chilling out after the party with Camden in their Halloween jammies...
There are lots more pics to come. I will try to post more tomorrow, along with pictures from her actual birthday and her present from Tim and I!

Adelynn's First Ponytail

...well, kind of! I got sick of her bangs always being in her eyes, so I bought some itty bitty rubber bands today. She refuses to leave bows in her hair when she's playing, but this seemed to work pretty well. Plus, she looks so stinking cute!

And for fun...her favorite place in the house, because this is where she gets food!

Adelynn update

For those who don't know already, Adelynn was recently diagnosed with Turner's Syndrome. It is a genetic disease that occurs only in girls. Basically, part or all of her secondary chromosome is missing. It will affect her growth (but with Tim and I as her parents, we really weren't expecting her to be all that tall!) There is an increased risk of congenital heart and kidney defects. She will be on growth hormones from about age 7 - 14 to hopefully get her to the low end of average height. She will also be on estrogen therapy from puberty to menopause. She most likely doesn't have any functioning eggs, but if her heart checks out ok, she may be able to carry a pregnancy with a donor egg. She is at a higher risk for type 2 diabetes, hearing loss, vision problems and osteoporosis. She had her kidney ultrasound yesterday, and she does have 2 functioning kidneys. We will meet with her geneticist in September, as well as her cardiologist. She will probably have an EKG done in early October. We will keep you updated on her progress and what we find out. I just want to thank our wonderful families for all the love and support we have received. I don't know what I'd do without you! (especially my wonderful aunts and uncles - I love you all so much!)

10 months!

Miss Adelynn turned 10 months old on Friday. I can't believe she is almost a year old. She's really cruising around now, I'm sure she will be walking soon! She starts daycare again tomorrow, and I'm sure she will catch on when she sees the other babies walking. It is getting very difficult to get a picture of her these days, she was too preoccupied with eating the sign to look at us! Here's what we were able to get!

Here she is practicing her walking skills
